In jail for using bogus Social Security number. Don't the cops have any REAL criminals to hunt down!
Couple from Mexico face charges Mike Sakal, Tribune January 9, 2009 - 12:30PM A husband and wife who purchased a home five years ago with the help of stolen Social Security numbers they used to get a loan are in jail, police said. David Garcia Herrera, 30, and his wife, Veronica Navarrete-Robles, 37, both suspected illegal immigrants from Mexico, were arrested by Mesa police on Wednesday on identity theft and fraud-related offenses after police executed a search warrant at the home in the 1000 block of East Glade Avenue and discovered financial documents with the couple’s name and someone else’s Social Security number on them. Furniture the couple had purchased at a furniture store by using the stolen Social Security numbers was discovered in the couple’s home south of Southern Avenue near Stapley Road and seized as evidence. Herrera had been using the stolen Social Security numbers since 2001, and the couple had purchased the home in 2003, according to Mesa police. Herrera declined to cooperate with police, but Navarrete-Robles told police that she did not have a valid Social Security number and was not legally living in the U.S. |
